Just outside of Crook County to the East is one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon, known as the Painted Hills. The hills are composed of layers of yellows, reds, golds and black earth which denotes the different geological eras of this floodplain of the past.
This area is also a popular spot to study plant and animal history as the earth in this area holds many ancient fossils dating back to over 50 million years.
